Thinking from the pedestal

Web design on the basis of Wordpress

Betina Kuntzsch has won the Germany-wide competition “Artistic commentary on the Ernst Thälmann Memorial” with her concept “Thinking from the pedestal – 10 perspectives on a memorial”. 110 artists submitted proposals, from which the jury selected ten projects for further development. In 2020, the final decision was made in favor of Kuntzsch’s work, which sheds new light on the history of the site with its multi-layered documentation.

We developed a bilingual, mobile-optimized WordPress website for the implementation of this award-winning art project. A central element is the integration of QR codes, which are attached to five concrete elements around the monument. By simply scanning them with a smartphone, visitors gain direct access to ten short films that offer different perspectives on the monument and its historical significance. The website not only allows the films to be played directly, but also provides further information, including archive material, background information on the artistic concept and press reports on the project.

It was particularly important to create clear, intuitive navigation that allows users to quickly grasp the content – whether on the move or at home. We paid attention to a responsive design that adapts seamlessly to different screen sizes.
